Four decades of structural work,
led by an engineer who builds.
Lehigh Construction Company is a Los Angeles structural concrete and seismic construction firm. Since 1984, our crews have strengthened, converted and rebuilt more than a hundred Southern California buildings — including many of the landmark conversions that remade Downtown Los Angeles: the Eastern Columbia Lofts, The Standard Hotel, the Pegasus, the Higgins Building, Toy Factory and Biscuit Lofts, and the theatres and hotels of the Broadway corridor.
We work as the seismic structural subcontractor — the trade responsible for the shotcrete, shear walls, strengthening and structural concrete at the heart of a retrofit or conversion — alongside owners, developers, structural engineers of record, and general contractors including Taisei, Swinerton, Shawmut, Bernards, MATT Construction and Morley Builders.
Mehrdad Houriani, PE — Principal
Mehrdad Houriani is a California-licensed Professional Engineer and licensed general contractor — a combination that is rare in the retrofit field and defines how this company works. He holds a civil engineering degree from Lehigh University — the alma mater this company is named after — and a structural engineering degree from the University of Michigan, and has held a California contractor’s license since 1984.
For over four decades he has personally directed the structural side of Southern California retrofit and conversion work: reading and challenging the calculations, planning the sequencing that keeps occupied buildings running, and supervising the crews that place the concrete. When your structural engineer of record issues drawings, they are priced and built by someone who speaks their language.

How we work
Self-performed crews
Our own forces place the structural concrete and shotcrete — supervised in-house, not brokered out.
Engineer-to-engineer
We support your engineer of record with constructability feedback and honest pricing from feasibility onward.
Occupied buildings
Sequencing, protection and logistics for buildings that keep operating while we strengthen them.
Landmark experience
Historic fabric, terra cotta, early concrete — strengthened without erasing what makes the building matter.
